Manos Hands Of Fate…Kage?

I want all of you geeks out there to think back…

back…

back to the days of MST3K…

That wonderful show set in the not to distant future, somewhere in time and space, where Mike Nelson and his robot pals are caught in an endless chase. Persued by a woman whose name is Pearl, an evil gal who wants to rule the world, she threw a few things in her purse and in her rocket ship she hunts them all across the universe. She sends him cheezy movies, the worst she can find, and he has to sit and watch them all while she monitors his mind. Now keep in mind, Mike can’t control when the movies begin or end, and he tries to keep his sanity with the help of his robot friends, Gypsy, Cambot, Tom Servo, and Croooow.

*deep breath*  That was all from memory, impressive, no?
Anyway, I have recently been experiencing a bizarre preponderance of occurrences of MST3K-dom that lead me to believe that someone, somewhere, is sending me a message…

First, I got a hankering and began rewatching the cannon; my favorite episode to this day is still “The Mole People”

Then Secondly, and in perhaps the most epic cross over costume in the history of the universe, I met a man at Wondercon. Initially, I believed him to be dressed as a character from Naruto, the anime. he wore the typical Kage costume of a leader of one of the Ninja clans, but when I approached him to ask for a picture, he opened his robe and displayed…THE RED “MANOS HANDS OF FATE” HANDPRINTS!!!!!!! That’s when I realized that the box he was carrying wasn’t just a box with a robot inside it, it was a Tom Servo KISSING BOOTH!!!!!!

Manos Hands Of Fate Kage

Needless to say, I was excited and immediately shouted “You’re the Manos Hands of Fate Kage!” He stopped dead in his tracks and got the widest grin on his face…”Why, yes I am!” He was very impressed with me. Because, you see, geeks like to have geek battles, where we attempt to sport our most obscure references, like my husband’s Cosa Nostro Pizza Delivery shirt, or my shirt with the “Hello my name is” name tag filled out to read “Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die.” Whenever someone catches the reference, they earn metaphysical points. If no one catches it, you are an ultimate badass of geek awesomeness. But no one is ever sad to lose, because for one brief instant, you connect with a stranger, and know one another for a friend in the most profound way!

Anyway, I believed this to be the end of my weird, unearthly connection to the fandom, when I am watching Countdown on MSNBC and lo and behold…Keith is interviewing the MST3K guys! It turns out that they have a new gig, touring around the USA doing one live show after another. You go to a movie and get to sit in the theater while they do their shtick! How awesome is that?

If you’re interested, check out cinematictitanic.com I did, and I can’t wait for the next tour to begin!
